Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How old does a mattress have
to be before it is worthwhile cleaning it?
A. There are something you can do to prevent house dust mites to a
certain extend, such as washing bedclothes weekly in hot water (over 55°) and
airing quilts in the sun weekly. However, as the majority of
house dust mites inhabit in mattresses due to
the favourable environment, it is important to note that
mattress protectors, household disinfectants or frequently laundered
bed linens offer little if any protection from the dust mite
problem. A new mattress can quickly become one of the
dirtiest items in the home. We have found that a new mattress, if used on a
regular basis, would benefit from a cleaning after about 6 months
use.
Q. How often should a mattress be cleaned?
A. We spend approximately one-third of our lives in bed. No one is immune from indoor pollutants and allergens produced by dust mites.
To prevent dust mites and harmful microscopic organisms from
breeding/accumulating again and achieve the best protection,
the recommended mattress cleaning service interval is once every six
months for people with or without allergic/asthmatic symptoms.
However, other factors need to be considered like the state of your
health, whether you have known allergies to dust mites and
require more frequent servicing eg; Asthma or Eczema. Also, if your
symptoms begin to return, that will determine when a mattress
cleaning is required. On the other hand, as senior citizens and children are
most vulnerable to contaminants and allergens produced by dust mites, we recommend
that their mattresses be cleaned once every three months.
Q. Can Hygienitech mattress
cleaning cure my allergy?
A. Hygienitech Mattress Cleaning and Sanitising Process won't
provide a cure for allergies but what it can do is to help reduce
the severity and frequency of existing allergies/asthma and prevent
the development of allergies/asthma by eliminating the major sources
of indoor allergens, such as dust mites and other harmful
microscopic organisms.
We have found in many cases that mattress cleaning and sanitising
has eliminated dust mite causing allergies. Many of our customers
have found that their particular allergy disappears altogether and
in the case of asthmatics, about 85% of sufferers are allergic to
house dust mite droppings, so there is a very likely chance of
significant relief.
A newly cleaned and sanitised mattress will
lead to:
1. A dust mite, bacteria, virus & allergy-free sleeping environment and better family
health
2. Helping to reduce the severity and frequency of existing
allergies/asthma
3. Preventing the development of indoor allergies, asthma and the
resultant health problems, such as upper respiratory problems and
flu-like symptoms
4. Feeling fresh and revitalized
Hygienitech
process will benefit both allergy sufferers and non-allergy
sufferers, resulting in a restful, better sleep at night.
Q: Can I have my mattress steam cleaned?
A: Never! Any form of moisture/steam should be kept away from
your mattress. A wet mattress is not only difficult to dry out, but also
becomes the perfect breeding ground for dust mites, bacteria and
moulds, as these harmful microorganisms favour humid conditions.
Q. How long does the cleaning process take?
A. It naturally depends on the size of the mattress; allow 15 to 20
minutes for each mattress. To prepare a faster work flow you can
remove the sheets, blankets and pillows from your bed. After we have completed cleaning
both
sides of the mattress we apply a plant based natural spray that
deodorizes as well as sanitizes. You can make the bed after a few
minutes. You don’t even need to air the room unless you want to.
Q. Do protective mattress covers work?
A. Protective bedding has little effect on reducing or preventing
allergic reactions when they are the only measure taken. Microscopic
organisms and dust mite excrement (allergens) can easily pass through
these covers. From our experience, whenever we have tested a mattress with a
protective cover, the mattress has always tested positive for
contamination. Nevertheless, should you have or intend to purchase a
mattress protector, then only use it on a mattress that has just been cleaned and sanitized beforehand. If you don’t, all
you are doing is incubating the dust mites, bacteria, viruses, fungus
and mould that is
already present in the mattress.
Q. Can an old mattress be
cleaned effectively?
A. Yes, most definitely. Mattresses that are old will have much
higher levels of dust mites, dust mite excrement, harmful
organisms
and other contaminated sediments. Hygienitech Mattress Cleaning
process will not remove stains/marks on the mattresses and pillows.
However, if a mattress has been soiled, the Hygienitech
process can eradicate all bacteria, viruses, fungal spores and mould
that may have formed. In fact, after cleaning and sanitising, not only will
you have a mite-free and fresh mattress with extended usage life, which will save you money in the long run,
but also you will have a restful and good sleep under a healthy
sleeping environment.
